SUNDANCE SWAG GIVEAWAY

Hello Friends! I am back from the Sundance Film Festival. I had such a fun time and barely felt like I was working at all. I guess that's when you know you LOVE your job!! I made a lot of great connections and am so grateful for the experience! I am please to announce I have been hired as a Production Designer and Assistant Producer for the same company for the OSCARS!!! EEK! I'm beyond thrilled and excited to make magic again! More on that later...I wanted to share pictures with you from the Sundance event as well as do a GIVEAWAY!!

To capture the vision I had for the space I pulled in a friend of mine who is a talented artist that uses real butterflies in her work. Brittany of Trinkets and Butterflies makes shadow boxes and jewelry with them.

NO butterflies were harmed to make these exotic pieces of art and jewelry. All butterfly specimens are ecologically sustainable insects that come from butterfly farms all around the world who specialize in raising, breeding and releasing them into the wild.

The butterfly life span is approximately 3-6weeks, they are then are collected after they naturally perish. Purchasing these rare items not only will you get to enjoy their natural beauty, but you will also be helping and contributing to a good cause. The money that is spent to purchase the items goes to sustain these conservation programs and protect their rain forest habitats. I LOVE that!!

The suite I decorated fully with a botanical theme. The beautiful abstract floral art I collaborated on with L Floral Studio. They captured my vision, the exact flowers and vines I wanted to use and then went beyond!

I wanted to match the vibrant blues of some of the butterflies and with hyacinths and these amazing aqua and green hybrid orchids the space was truly a sight and smelled AMAZING!

The butterflies were truly the highlight! I hung them all over the place and had amazing spotlights to give them the attention they deserved. This is one of my favorites because it had a purple tone when you angled it a certain way.

Here is a collage of the lace and yellow butterflies peeking out from one of the cool abstract recycled chandeliers, also decor. I took this and posted it to my Instagram feed found HERE. I'll post more photos of the event once the press photography is released in the upcoming week.

Several of the top VIP's and Celebrities were gifted one of the amazing necklaces made with the butterfly wings. There are so many amazing ones to choose from and they are all stunning!

The space I am designing for the Sundance Film Festival has fantastic views! Right smack on historic Main Street. The balcony spans two large buildings and overlooks all the buzz and life of Park City. Marvelous!! It snowed today during my first day of set up. Actually I was there to meet with the owners of the Non-Profit company I am working for to review the space and take notes as to any last min. details to get done by Friday. So much to do, so little time. You know the saying! I am really loving this opportunity and excited to experience Sundance in a whole different way. I will also be mingling with the VIP's and helping in any capacity that is asked of me at the private event. I feel I am right where I need to be to expand my career as a Set Designer in Film and TV. The best part....it's so much FUN!! I love what I do and that I can do it and still be a Mom and Wife! Women Power ha!

PINK WEDDING

I have been slammed with The Sundance Film Festival! Eek it's so exciting! 30 minutes after I opened this fortune cookie above (from my Instagram feed HERE) I took a call where I was asked to help with a VIP gifting suite and educational lounge for a very well known company in the industry. I am beyond thrilled to be working one on one with them and creating an amazing space for top Directors, Filmmakers, Actors and Producers to enjoy. To get such job offers is both a joy and honor. For this reason I am absent from my blog a lot. I have much to share that is going on but I am not able to just yet...but soon! Other opportunities to take me to award shows in the very near future make my head spin and my heart sing! I truly LOVE what I do!!!

On another note of design I have been actively planning weddings since I did my first one at 19 for a girlfriend. I have not made this my priority in my career, rather I take on a wedding every so often. I have to feel it is magical enough or the person is so special I can pour all my creativity into it as if it were my own. One such person that I help with her wedding, getting her ideas and helping her become addicted to Pinterest (ha!) is my former ballet student, turned dear friend Elora. She is getting married today! Doesn't she remind you of Grace Kelly!?!

Her dress is BLUSH PINK and has POCKET! Swoon!!

She just graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. She is very into high fashion and did an internship in New York and London this past summer that landed her at the Tony awards! I had the honor of helping dress her there! It was a blast feeling her excitement and being a part of that! I wanted to share her amazing photo my other friend Jessica Janae took of her. Breathtaking! Honored to be a part of her life and wedding day even if in the smallest ways. More photos of the event to come for sure. I promise lots of pink as it's her favorite color!

Day 2 Once Upon a Dream - Claxton Farms

Well it seems my photos are saved somehow but not my words describing every photo. I currently updated my laptop to iCloud and it not only messed up my laptop losing precious data but my cell phone completely restored deleting everything!! Thankfully on the laptop I have an external hard drive that holds my life so all was recovered.

I'll briefly state the group was bused to beautiful and picturesque Claxton Farms on Friday morning at the event back in October. We had a full day planned of art projects and visiting. We had lunch and dinner well into the late evening with s'mores by a huge bonfire and cocktails and dancing inside. Here are some photos from the first half of the day.....

The center table had a huge embellished wreath that was quite the focal point! It lit up with battery operated lights in the evening. Beautiful! Love the fabric over the beams. I have done this in my home and my cabin for this Fall's Glamping trip so I know how much work goes into getting it all done up.

Behind our table was a fun photo-op area, raffle prize table and soda machine. I had given up my Diet Coke habit and all soda and sugar 3 months prior to the event so this was quite a temptation as it was open tap! Those silver bags on the table.....full of goodies and sugar. I admit I did eat it...shhh!! I was back on my diet the day I got home! (have lost 26lbs of the baby weight at Christmas weigh in! Yay!)

I had to post this silly photo of Lori and myself. We kept giving directions on the perfect photo.....this is a majority of how they turned out hahaha!

If my eyes weren't closed...then hers were ha! Love this gal!!! I have to give a plug to DownEast. They dressed me in several outfits for the event giving me a fab wardrobe to wear! The skirt is by Just Be. I added a vintage slip to lengthen it. A ton of my jewelry were my own pieces, however my friend Carol Brodie had some amazing jewelry I wore from one of her lines (I own them now!! Swoon!!) I love her stuff (She used to work for Harry Winston. Who WOULDN'T love her stuff!). I had the pleasure of suggesting Carol's jewelry to my girlfriend whom I helped dress for the Tony awards! Anyway...there is my plug for my friends, sponsors and brands I promised I'd mention. HUGE thanks, I felt beautiful!!!

Pretty Fairy wings of lace!

This large garage door rolled up for an indoor-outdoor experience. Reminded me of my home in California and that kind of design/living. It was such a beautiful day and the views were amazing no matter where you sat!

The swag bags were so beautiful! I now use mine to carry my ballroom dancing shoes to class rather than my gym bag. MUCH prettier!

The beautiful necklace/bracelet we made by Andrea Singarella. LOVE her!! Love the packaging on ALL the projects I will say. These ladies know how to bring on the details!

This was taken as one of the official event photos. Of course Tiffany who was the official photographer took MUCH better photos than me tee hee! She spoke on Cameras and photo taking at lunch. She is just DARLING and a ball of energy!

My new friend Cynthia wore such a unique and beautiful jacket with lace fashioned as a butterfly. AMAZING! We all dressed up Prairie style. I will admit I was a bit more urban prairie the welcome night. I had Chanel, Miss Me Couture and Ivanka Trump on....Prairie Princess maybe? haha! The outfits for crafting day were over the top amazing and fun!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR....I think?

So NOTHING is posting properly on my blog. Way to start off the New Year! I have a new website, linked to my new blog....same address, here actually so you found me, yay! And, well....I have had to get someone to help me because something went wrong and the help I had hired previously delivered her baby pre-mature :( So positive hats on I will give it a go for slowly rolling out the new carpet on everything. Bear with me and I hope you like the new changes coming shortly!

My new obsession is Instagram. I had a friend on Facebook convince me I needed to add the app to my iPhone and yes...I am addicted now. Welcome Night

After a long morning of shopping that quickly turned into afternoon antiquing I made it back to the hotel to get ready and meet everyone who was attending the event. So many faces I have been blogging with for YEARS! How exciting to be meeting so many of these amazing women all in one place. I have met bloggers before so I know how the butterflies mixed with delight bring a sort of rush to ones spirit! One of the first ladies I had to hug was the AMAZING Andrea. Down to earth, real as can be, sweet as ever and such a fun and FUNNY personality. Oh....and she gives the warmest hugs :)

All the women dressed in our lacy ensembles packed into our magical coach and headed up to Antler Hill.

As we walked in the door we were greeted by our hostess with the mostest (Jenn) and all things sparkly.

The name tags were just stunning!!! Jenn left no detail overlooked. I am a stickler for details as it is my profession both in the dance world and design/art where I dwell now. I will say I was delighted and impressed!

Each table was set as a chapter of a fairytale. Just beautiful! I especially loved the stamped rose petals!

At each persons place setting was our first project taught by the amazing and ever real, down to earth, beautiful and ultra talented, Lori Oles. The packaging....I DIE!!!

After finding our seats the shopping began at vendor tables. It was fun to have so many women reaching for the same things all at once due to loving the same things and having the same tastes. One vendor brought amazing edible cookies which tasted good too. So fun and beautiful!

The food was amazing and the women more so! This is the amazing Cheryl. Seriously one of the most amazing women whom I just love!! I have a lot in common with her daughter so it was nice to have someone understand all the schooling and grueling projects I have to do all the time!

After dinner we made beautiful art presented by Lori as I mentioned and Karla Nathan, whom I adore!! This is Dee Faust modeling Lori's beautiful woodland garland. Dee was a hoot and such a stunner! Work it girl!!

The evening was fun and everything was well planned and thought of. I met a lot of new fairy friends who I am so honored to call friends for life!

Stay tuned for the next days events and photos. I am trying to get caught up with all my on-goings prior to New Years, when my blog will be changing and I will post weekly. My schedule has become slightly more open which will be nice.

Once Upon a Dream - Day 2

My second day of my trip allowed for time to check out the town boutiques and amazing antique shops, namely The Screen Door and Tobacco Road. Both very well known and mecca for antiques.

I met up with other beautiful and FUN ladies several of you readers will recognize. We had a blast walking, talking, shopping and getting to know each other.

We hit the jackpot at TOPS shoes. Pictured here is the lovely Kim Caldwell with the group. I am thrilled to announce I plan to attend another event in May that she will be hosting. Her events are over the top AMAZING!! Here is the link:

Kim is so amazingly talented and ever sweet! I look forward to meeting up with this fun bunch of gals again, West Coast style. If you want to attend, registration has begun. Would love to see you there!

After hanging with the ladies in town, I drove with another participant to the antique shops. I picked up several treasures and made arrangements for others to be shipped home. I could seriously sleep in both locations and be happy ha!

The first we went to was the Screen Door.

I loved the layout of this store where each vendor had a "booth" and each vendors booth was laid out like a room or in vignettes.

Very clever and total eye candy!! I bought several items from this seller including a bed much like this one she had in storage. Such a wonderful booth!

These mercury glass urns I bought from the same booth have been so wonderful to use in my Fall and now Christmas decor. The patina is so pretty! If you follow me on Instagram you are possibly sick of them appearing in each of my photos ha!

I even ran into a sleepy kitty who was at home on a vintage sofa.

So sweet!!

Each turn was another treasure and I cannot wait to go back when I come back to visit Asheville. Bringing a trailer next time!

The next stop was Tobacco Barn. Seriously the largest antique mall I have ever been to.

It was so large you could barely see to the other end of the building!!

When you walk in the front door there was the most glorious antique hot air balloon to greet you. It was so neat! I was offered to get in but I don't think I could have gotten out and might have to donate my blood to pay for the thing (which wasn't for sale!).

My Father's parents had a surrey similar to this we grandchildren would peddle around their property back in the 70's and 80's. This brought back such happy memories. I was tempted to peddle her home for my little ones tee hee!

Beautiful items everywhere and more milk glass than I have ever seen in my life...all in one spot! Mecca!

Even MY collecting addictions could be fed with cabinets like this! Swoon! Almost bought it but the quote they gave me a week later for shipping was more expensive than the cabinet believe it or not. Coming back with that trailer for sure!

Everything about Asheville was charming! I am so happy I got to experience such a place! Stay tuned for the Day 2's Welcome Night! I have so many photos to post as well as life has been uber busy with a lot going on and travel. Thanks for your visit!

Once Upon a Dream - Day 1

WOW mid-terms and major design projects really hit me all at once! These photos of my October event are long overdue! Here we go...Part I: I flew into Atlanta and drove up to North Carolina with another event participant.

My flight was like any other until I peeked out the window to check out the very interesting "luggage" being unloaded. Hmmm....

The upscale hotel I stayed at was different from what I normally like to stay in. I'm more of a traditional gal with a twist of "spa". This hotel was fun, hip and a bit of funky in the mix. Had a wonderful nights stay there where room service was top notch with Aveda products along with milk and cookies at the stroke of midnight!

I really liked the fun colorful carpet above and this vase below!

The drive the next morning took me through three states in 4 hours. The closer to Asheville, NC I got the more beautiful the scenery! Patches of sun crept out of the overcast for breathtaking shadows here and there.

Finally there I took time to unpack and check out the quaint town. Very artsy. Lots of shops and hot spots such as the amazing tapas bar where an amazing chocolate gnocchi and goats cheese were experienced (YUM!!)

The town reminded me of a cross between San Francisco and Park City. It is a collage age town but full of artists and antique shops rather than students. The shops closed rather early too which was strange to me.

It had a unique southern charm unlike any "charm" I had experienced.

The streets were beautiful with all the fall foliage and the beautiful blue ridge mountains framing it all.

This is one of the views above from outside the hotel. I had no idea which was was North or South. I am used to the huge mountains, tall skyscrapers, or the Pacific Ocean being my guide!

After the long flights, drive and ending the evening with amazing food I met some of the fun women and amazing instructors and called it a night. Stay tuned for Day #2 tomorrow, with even double photos!!

Little Mookie LUXE

Before I blog about the details and share some of the hundreds of photos I took from my most recent event, Once Upon a Time, I first want to give a huge shout out to my beautiful and oh so talented new girlfriend, Leslie of Little Mookie. We collaborated on a few custom bags I asked her to make me and thus started her LUXE line. She is a brilliant seamstress and her bags are high quality, high end materials and so affordable!

She has another bag she is making me at present and I will reveal when it is finished! I ended up using this beautiful small bag to cart all my crafting supplies to the event locations. She brilliantly put in a lot of pockets inside to fit everything nicely! Please be sure to check her out!!

Fairy Art Journals

I participated in another swap at the Once Upon a Dream event that called for participants to create journals to go along with the event theme. I decided to keep the colors and materials similar to all my art I was submitting.

The paper I used was handmade paper with gold glittery vines. I used this as the cover both front and back. It's one of the prettiest papers I have ever used to create with. Inside I added beautiful ecru acid-free paper by Crane and a gold velum sheet on top to protect it. While the books were simple inside I felt the paper quality would be appreciated to journal on or put photos in. Sometimes less is more :)

I decided to make the outside different on all three. The first I added a few gathered yard of a vintage lace I coffee dyed. On top of that I added a beautiful sheer fabric I found that had a similar design to the vines on it. I sewed the same pearls I used on my fairy shoe down the center. I swoon every time I used them they are divine! I used some beautiful seam binding to bind the book and added a little bronze fairy charm to the bow.

The second book I handmade several chiffon flowers out of and embellished the centers with freshwater pearls.

I arranged them on top of chenille, ombre velvet and silk leaves. Some I beaded the veins on with bronze beads. The pin is vintage. I bound the book with seam binding in a corset style.

Again I added a little bronze fairy. I didn't realize how naked she is until these photos. Oops haha!

The last journal I made I used a muted gold satin ribbon where I sewed my favorite ruffle detail and attached a small section to both the top and bottom.

In the middle I arranged some more flowers and made some out of the vine fabric on the first book to mix it up a little. I have this stash of the most amazing beaded sprays. I had some green and sewed it on to add veins to some velvet leaves.

Again freshwater pearls embellished the centers of the flowers. I also did a corset style binding with seam binding in two colors and added a little (naked) fairy. I also added a vintage pin.

I really enjoyed making these journals. I have never taken a book-binding class or book-making class before so this was new and a fun challenge. I love when a project stretches my artistic abilities and mind. I have some of the paper left over in my studio and plan to make myself one to put special mementos and photos of this magical event in.

Fairy Shoe

I am back from spending a magical week in charming Asheville, North Carolina with my fellow fairy friends for the Once Upon a Dream event.

Everything was lacy, dreamy and overall magical. All the stops were pulled out with eye candy everywhere one could look. While I am still recovering from all the travel, uploading the endless photos while stepping back into life this week, I wanted to share a few of the art swap items I created.

The first swap I participated in was a Fairy Shoe. Many of the women/artists found a vintage shoe, or special high heels they altered into amazing creations.

Everyone had such fun ideas. It was a thrill to see each swappers ideas.

I decided having a ballet background and dancing myself in productions such as Sleeping Beauty, A Midsummer's Night Dream and a few others qualified a ballet shoe to be altered. My shoe was a single new one. I applied 7 layers of glitter including a top coat of very fine German glass glitter. I have a special formula I feel I have perfected where the glitter will not rub off when done.

I often take my ballet students old shoes and alter them for a memento the girls can cherish. I wanted this shoe to be just as special. I used a beautiful vintage lace that was tea dyed from my friend Brenda's amazing shop, Just a Bed of Roses. I hand sewed it into a gather and then glued it inside the band of the shoe lace that goes all the way around the top of the vamp and sides of shoe. I added dyed French seam binding Brenda also hand dyes on top.

I then took this amazing ombre velvet in the most perfect Fall colors along with silk green fabric and cut them into leaves. I beaded the veins and then adhered those down. The pearls that I added were such a great find and I used them in all my art swaps for this event. I gold leafed the sole as to display the markings on the bottom. Very important to determine the maker and style of pointe shoe. I wanted to highlight that. This shoe were so much fun to make! I was thrilled Sonia was the recipient and she loved it!

Fabulous Fall

Fall is my husbands most favorite time of year. I try to go out of my way to make each corner of our home sparkle with a little bit of color and magic to make him smile.

Perhaps I go a little overboard with changing out pillows, formal and informal china, towels.....

....and sometimes moving furniture in and out of rooms to accommodate my pumpkin topiary obsession tee hee! (I have them everywhere! My formal living room mantle above.)

I always have something simmering such as a spice packet, candles and my holiday Scentsy scents. My Aunt and girlfriend sell these and I prefer them as they are safer than an open flame around children!

This week I am finally pulling out all the boxes of decor and getting started. I usually am finished by now but I have been savoring a long summer not wanting it to end! However once I get started it all looks so festive and gets me in the mood for hot cider and the beginnings of the holidays. I have purchased a few new goodies that sparkle and shine (of course) and will share them as soon as they find a home. What are you doing to create magic in your spaces?

New Lighting Trend: Metal Encased Chandeliers

Last year when I was learning to weld in one of my sculpture classes at the University I made a chandelier. Well I actually made several different kinds. One being a metal rod encasement in which I fashioned a small petite candle chandelier inside. Much like the one above in the photo.

It was for an assignment. I didn't think anything of it until I received my advanced Interior Designers copy of the new Restoration Hardware catalog a little over a month ago. I guess good ideas think alike and I am thrilled to see their take on it!

Check out these babies. I am in LOVE with the Birdcage light. I have a few little birds as pets so bird themes seem to creep into my homes somehow. Thinking on one of those for my studio. What a conversation piece! Now this is what I WOULD/SHOULD have made! Sadly I was only given a week to complete my assignment. I'm positive these take a bit longer than that ha!

This is one of my attempts at the metal encasement, sans chandelier. I have a whole new appreciation for working with metal. Even my silly photo above looks easy to make but that metal took HOURS to hammer and bend into those simple shapes. I love how the catalog interviews each artist who has put their skills into these works of art. I hope to one day perfect these skills as well as they have.

Metal is really fun!. It is one of my most favorite mediums to work with. My girlfriend Elise (on the Right with me in the photo above), who also is taking classes with me, would have to agree it is fun. Bring on the power tools.....in stilettos of course! This is a photo of us right before we were pouring molten Bronze last Fall. Don't you just love our outfits ha!

My Ballet teacher, mentor and dearest friend Miki is married to the very well known sculpture artist, Joe Casalino. He is brilliant!! We were working in his studio one day and Miki took this cool photo of us. I cannot wait to weld again with him! He has a show coming up I will post info about if you care to view his work. Stay tuned.

I hope these lights have brought you as much inspiration as they have brought me.

Web Side Story...I so relate!

Hello sweet friends and family! Just wanted to post a quick hello tonight. I'm back from my month off of blogging etc. I needed time to catchup on Nutcracker auditions, ballet, family, projects, travel a little more and get settled in school. My load is very small this semester yet I am overloaded on Zumba classes. I am taking FOUR per week!! Mental I know but I have started off the school year with a month of no sugar, caffeine and feel amazing! I'm usually pretty competitive with myself when it comes to ballet and working out so....Bring it on!

I have so much to share and am not sure where to start, but for now I wanted to give you a giggle to start off your week. For me it is very hard to keep up to blogging, tweeting, Facbook, Pinterest, Instagram etc....It's a full time job and if you're like some of my personal friends (The AMAZING Jen of Tatertots and Jello!!) then it IS your full time job (Love you Jen!!) I am stretched already as it is. Enjoy the video. I design with, for, and do makeup, costumes, sets and giggle endlessly with Theater Majors so I love this clip and find it hysterical in the art world where I dwell at present!

Until Tuesday when my regular posts shall resume. I hope you are enjoying the last few weeks of Summer. Mine has been full of fun and such amazing memories and experiences!

SWING

The family reunion was a big success! I am still recovering and my feet are still on fire from all the walking, hikes and standing to visit with everyone. Well worth it! The hike to the summit was beautiful. My Uncle brought back a bouquet of flowers for my 90 year old Grandmother. To which she named every single one. Impressive!

Another hike took us to my favorite spot called Beaver Pond. It is the most stunning clearing in the middle of the mountains with a charming pond surrounded by wildflowers and trees lining the horizon. Both a stunning sight and truly heavenly. I will be taking my girlfriends on a hike here. Perhaps set up a picnic.

We put up a new swing at the cabin. It swings out over the most heavenly views. I took this photo right before sunset so I apologize it is so dark! The photo is deceiving but it is hung over a rather steep slope. A family full of adrenaline junkies would only think to hang it over such a steep drop ha! But it is so fun, not to mention very peaceful.

It got me thinking to look up my most favorite swing photo. I found it yet again on Pinterest. Isn't it just beautiful. I want to decorate our swing to make it festive for my Glamping trip in a few weeks. I invited 34 girlfriends and know there will be a long line on the mountain to try it out! I can't wait.

While searching for the photo above I came by another beautiful shot. A wedding swing. So many couples photographed on swings, but this one was my favorite.

And this one over the ocean. Hands down my favorite! I am more of a water baby than mountain maid. Yes please and thank you.

Cabin Fever

Our cabin is a slice of heaven! It is at 8300 feet high and the views are to die for!

The drive up the canyon is breathtaking, especially in the Fall! We have had the place in our family for about 50 years now on my Mothers side. I have the fondest memories of running and hiking around the 10+ acres it sits on.

Yesterday we cleared the path that leads to the summit!! It's a marvelous but short 15 min. hike. That's how high up we are! A natural spring is where we get water piped in from and I swear it is the best tasting ever! We don't need air conditioning because when it is 100 degrees down in the city it keeps to a cool 60 degrees inside and out. Heaven in the most rustic way!

My children LOVE it up here. Can't you tell by the glob of tooth paste on the chair? Thankfully that hosed off...tee hee! At least they brush. I am so grateful to be able to share the same memories with my own children that I enjoyed as a child. This slice of home ownership is more different than I have ever taken on and I am delighted to be included.

Of course the Interior Decorator in me wants to refinish and paint all sorts of stuff, such as this amazing table that was my Great-Grandmothers. I so want to paint it all, lighten it up and make it more airy. Maybe one day, but for now the rustic finish it is. There is a lot of history this place holds. I know you, my Design and DIY friends can see the potential I can! Our family really does want to preserve the history of the cabin back to when my Grandfather had it built as much as possible. So we have to agree on a lot together as a co-op between my Aunts, Uncles and myself. As my Mother passed away I represent her share. I feel so lucky but perhaps you can help me convince them my ideas are best haha!

This cabinet was my Great Grandmothers as well. My Grandma has started stripping it from it's soft green color and I want to paint it back on ha!

Everything has a bit of history in the cabin, especially as my family lived in many countries before settling back in here in the USA. So the decorations are a lot of beautiful mementos from our travels ~~as well as some I would love to toss.~~ I am in love with all the fantastic and authentic lights from Spain. We have new lights everywhere else but I am glad these were put back up after the remodel to the exterior.

We replaced the deck as well. It seems to be rebuilt every other year due to the heavy snowfalls, but with all the upkeep I am sure it is a small price to pay for another retreat to enjoy God's creations.

One of the highlights of the cabin is we are so very high we get great cell coverage from a nearby tower on the top of a mountain. So from this amazing spot I blog!

This was our sunset above that we watched while eating s'mores last night. SWOON! I will post more photos of our cabin in the next week as we have a huge family reunion this weekend. 56 of us are expected to sleep over so it should be ~~interesting~~ fun! I am also hosting a "Girls Gone Glamping" party with about 37 of my close girlfriends in a few weeks. Should be a blast!

This is my adorable 90 year old Grandma who really does set the tone and trend of real glamping a la 80's sweatshirts. Probably because there are tons of them here (as it seems to be the dumping ground up here. For blankets too ha!) in case you get cold. Which at this altitude, even in summer, it does! So if you come up be prepared to wear one haha! Mine has a Unicorn on it. Oh dear!

This is my view from the far west deck (the deck wraps around 3 sides of the large building) of which I am doing some plein air painting with my Grandmother. She holds degrees in Painting, Drawing AND Sculpture. She's a bit overqualified in my opinion and my hero, especially when it comes to art. I am a VERY slow painter and she is very patient with me!

This was the last painting I worked on and finished from a photo I took LAST Spring of the cherry trees on Capitol Hill. Yeah....I'm THAT slow :) I am actually thinking about building a little art hut somewhere on the property so I can make it my own in a white washed dreamy shabby space. It is so inspiring up here and the views....To.Die.For. I will be sure to take and share more photos of the views this weekend.

I hope you are enjoying the rest of your summer wherever that heaven may be for you! So far mine has been a very busy, worldwide whirlwind, but fulfilling summer! I'll soon be switching into wedding mode to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of one of my best friends from India. This was the itinerary packet that Fed Ex delivered to me last week. Let's Play House

....Barbie style!! My Mother gave me all this amazing Barbie furniture a few years ago from when she was little. My most favorite of the collection is this little retro kitchen with matching table and chairs.

While I have been uber busy with traveling and my mass reorganize and move project (hence the lack of blogging excuse #200 ha!) I have been able to dig through some of the crates and find a few treasures I wanted to take out. Especially this set for my daughter who has been bonkers for Barbies for the past 3 years.

The amazing thing about this kitchen set is that it actually functions with water. Why don't they make toys like this anymore?

Both the sink and dishwasher units have a little reservoir in the back where you fill with water. Then with the flip of a switch the water runs in the sink faucet as well as the dishwasher. Heaven forbid Barbie to have dirty dishes!

Even the cutlery is metal and almost functional! Brilliant!

With a battery in place the stove will turn a turkey for roasting. And the burners light up.

The fridge is my most favorite part! Those handles!!

My parents have an EXACT full size fridge like this one in their summer lake house. Their whole kitchen in fact is this turquoise tone and fully functional. We had such a fun time making comparisons to the real fridge. I will have to take a photo for you one day to share.

Some of the same functions as the full size model are the swing out shelves and crates on the bottom. Of course with a few cakes included it's divine tee hee!

My favorite are the ice cube trays. A little plastic goes a long way in creating realistic magic!

Another favorite of mine is the mini Windex bottle under the sink. I actually found one of those in the back of a closet just last week at our cabin. This one even has the cleaner in it and that little salt shaker you see has salt in it! Not sure how safe that is for kids to play with, but still cute!

The double sink allows for Barbie to throw a huge bash. The faucet will move from side to side and is functioning. Love it!

Everything is just adorable, especially all the little boxes with accurate labels to what the popular brands were used in the 1950's. I feel so lucky to have been given this gift!! Very carefully I will enjoy hours of play with my little one! We are now off to Barbie's bedroom to hang up the laundry, tee hee!

More than meets the Eye

While hunting on a few websites, one being eBay I was searching for an Italian Florentine style item. While scrolling through the endless pages full of tiny thumbnail photos (you know the ones, where you can barely see the details) I was taken back by one vendors prices.

Since shopping at European flea markets recently I was pretty well aware of the price point my item I have in mind should be. I thought perhaps I might have hit the jackpot and why not look at his whole shop. While I am NOT in the market for a table, a box, a set of drawers or a jewelry chest, I couldn't help but click on the listing. I had a good laugh seeing that tiny treasures were made for Barbie to adorn her dream house with!

I am gearing up to hit 3 Flea Markets and 2 boutiques and a Designers only trunk show this weekend starting today..phew! Both for my new home and a friends. I can only hope they have treasures MY size as well.

Ocean Views

With seemingly endless sunny beaches, charming towns, glamorous yachts and celebrities galore, the French Riviera keeps the Belle Epoque alive. The Cote d'Azure is pampered by a nearly tropical climate which is heaven!

Each Provence is delightful and every turn you take while exploring brings an element of surprise. Hard to not get lost in the magic.

This is where the stunning Mediterranean waters and old world apricot hued villas edge the blue horizon. The evening air is perfumed with jasmine (my most favorite scent!) and mimosa, and sunsets of gold whisk you off to dreamland. I swoon!!

There also is the allure of endless beaches where never before have I ever seen more yachts or all of my dream cars by the dozens.

In case you didn't hear, a certain Prince got married in Monaco last week. I am positive the sea "traffic" along the coast was a major result of the festivities.

Check out the view the new Princess has to live with above, tee hee! The Castle sit on top of the cliff overlooking the ocean. Amazing!

I did one of my design internships at a well known jewelry house. I learned so much (besides when ~~forced~~ asked to help in the gift wrap) in my time there. I have always had a ~~obsession~~ fascination with jewelry. I even became GIA certified many years after and have been importing diamonds, gems and yes, pearls (my favorite!) for many years now. Mostly to family and select friends but a few clients along the way.

I have a true appreciation of how much time, effort and detail goes into each work of art. I wanted to share this special custom made gift the Prince of Monaco presented to his new bride. A necklace and tiara of diamonds and blue sapphires. Truly fit for a princess. Who wouldn't want to wear the Ocean?

56 Bedrooms!

That is how many there are at Hearst Castle. And to think that yet another expansion of this amazing American home was underway right before the famous William Randall Hearst passed away.

On my one-million-th time (No-Really!) visiting I still find myself oohing and ahhing over every detail. I seriously drink it all in like an addict! Hearst Castle has been one of the many stops on my 3 month holiday. What a marvelous place, yet I am all swooned out haha!

The architecture and interior design are amazing and one can never capture it all in just one visit. I always take a day (or THREE this time!) to do so.

The exteriors are truly breathtaking! From the main house, Casa Grande....

...to each of the 3 guest houses. This one's my favorite!

This door is a work of art!!!

I actually did this tile look to some stairs on my California home property. This was my inspiration of course. A much better version too I'm sure. This sort of detail work is everywhere with no stone left unturned.

Everywhere you look there is something to take your breath away. My favorite spot is the Neptune Pool.

Another shot taken on a visit in the morning when the typical fog from the ocean set upon the hill. Dreamy isn't it! I recently found out that it is earthquake proof and sits like a bowl on top of a sand box to shift with the earth. Amazing!

I will not say goodbye, rather "see you soon". I am parting with several meaningful furnishings to make room for other pieces I have recently acquired in my home. I tend to "love" my items, including furnishings, deeply because I am so picky and take my time in choosing them to begin with. I am not one to make impulse choices when it comes to my personal space for myself or clients. Now if we are talking clothing, especially shoes and handbags...well....that's a different story ha ha!!

I LOVE the girls at Abode, especially the owner! We go back many years now, having been a client first and now I do a little consigning. I am still always impressed at the amazing treasures that can be found there. Not only is the staff fun and friendly, but they are very talented too. I dropped off this sweet French table, 5 chairs and a buffet. It is an antique set and the style really could go with any decor pending on how it is refinished or not. It is ready for a new special home to give it some TLC. Either the darling shabby chippy it is, or even painted a high gloss fabulous color to pop in a renovation or modern style, I know it will make someone as happy as I was when I purchased it.

Abode is known for putting on a fabulous outdoor Paris flea market once a month where you can go and check out all the amazing vendors and antique dealers for some eye candy and not to miss deals! Abode had something for everyone. I also have a huge assortment of decor and fine pearl jewelry inside.

In My Garden

With all this rain there truly Is a silver lining. The sun peeked out...crept actually...long enough for me to capture a few photos to share with you.

Pansies are very special to me as my Grandmother always had this same color right outside her front entry. I believe I used to eat them when I was younger tee hee!

Something about the way a Lily smells is HEAVEN to me. Especially when the scent wafts into my studio for added inspiration and motivation!

I could sit all day and dream in the rose beds, especially when they are shades of PINK!

No garden of mine would be complete without a water feature. I simply am obsessed with the sound of water. Perhaps living right next to the Ocean left me with a need for the tranquil sounds it can make? I even have three inside my home. One being a very large wall fountain that you can hear from all corners of my home. HEAVEN!

To ring in the sunshine to help my garden grow I am giving away a beautiful and unique pair of 10mm Vintage Golden colored Pearl Earrings with Sterling Silver backs and posts. I handpicked this color of pearls because it reminded me of a beautiful pearl necklace belonging to my Grandmother. She was always a ray of sunshine and had fresh flowers in her home weekly. Happy Memorial Day

I have many International readers and friends, many whom do not know what Memorial Day is. Memorial Day is a United States Federal holiday, observed on the last Monday of May. It commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while serving their country.

Although commonly known as a day of remembrance, Memorial Day is often associated with barbecues, sporting events, and family get-togethers, mainly because of the long weekend. My family does get together, sometimes travels, but we always make a special trip to visit the grave sites of those in our family who have passed, such as my Grandparents and Mother. Many a patriotic poet has penned Memorial Day poems to honor these brave souls. This is MY New favorite below dedicated to my late Grandfather who was a Senator. All he ever wanted was world peace and set an amazing example of accepting and loving everyone no matter.

PINK BIRTHDAY

For the past 3 years I have participated in PINK SATURDAY. It is a group of women and a few men worldwide who share in both the love of pink and friendships that extend beyond the google and networked blog readers. Beverly who hosts this weekly party has put her heart and soul into being the hostess with the mostest and introducing us to some of the most lovely and interesting people in blogland. Each week someone is featured as well as Beverly shares and encourages each one of us to share in something that makes us smile. Something pink of course!

One can blog hop for hours enjoying the beautiful photo eye candy! My contribution thie week are the flowers my romantic and amazing husband brought me home for no reason on Thursday evening. It was very gloomy outside and he brought the sunshine in with beautiful tropical colors. The roses are this amazing green into pink into peachy-orange color. Brilliant! My favorite stargazer lily was the icing on the cake and my whole house smells heavenly now! I am such a lucky gal!! Fresh flowers always brighten a home and are an instant lift. I always have them in my home weekly or hotel room when traveling.

While I do frequently get busy I try to make an effort to visit as many blogs as I can. I have made some heartfelt friends this way, several of whom I have met and will meet soon in person! I believe you can never have enough friends in life. I for one have very little tolerance for flakey and disrespectful friends. Actually I don't have any like this. I pride myself on the friends I keep and am very loyal. One of the reasons I admire Beverly is she has this gift of making and keeping friends and I both am drawn to that as well as share the same zest for quality in my life. We are each unique and if something can bring us all together regardless of our differences then may peace on earth reign! And of course Pink makes it all the more fun!

Thank you Beverly for your amazing example and for bringing so many of us together. You truly are such a kind soul! I hope you'll take the opportunity to meet other bloggers, not just today but in the next year to come by visiting Beverly's BLOG.

Lilacs

I feel lucky that my husband tells me our Lilacs are blooming and I need to go see them with him. They are his favorite scent and sometimes he'll surprise me with a few clusters he's brought indoors to arrange. I grew up on the very top street of a mountain neighborhood with the natural beauty of the wildflowers mixed in with cherry blossom trees and lilac bushes on my parents property. I recall spending countless hours on both the mountain backyard as well as in the gardens. I feel so lucky to have had such amazing surroundings and really enjoy nature because if it! A bundle of these blossoms is as meaningful and just as beautiful to me as a bouquet of roses or other fancy flowers my husband often surprises me with. What flowers are you loving this time of year?

A Well Dressed Table

Summer to me is endless entertaining which I love! I have been asked even as recently as this past weekend (at my cousins wedding shower) what essentials I feel make a well dressed table. While my personal taste falls into two very extreme categories...ornate and clean lines, I believe there are a few essentials that are timeless, marry my own tastes together brilliantly and should be in every woman's butlers pantry. The number one for me is the Revere Bowl.

In US History we learned that Paul Revere was a silversmith. Many of his works are on display in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston including the first Revere bowl which bears his name. With it's classic lines and elegant simplicity it is one of the top reproduced bowls to grace china cabinets all over the world. The first bowl is actually called the Sons of Liberty Bowl or Liberty Bowl. Paul Revere was commissioned in 1768 to make the bowl by fifteen members of the Sons of Liberty, a secret organization to which Revere belonged to.

The bowl honors 92 members of the Massachusetts House of Representatives who refused to rescind their letter sent throughout the colonies protesting the Townshend Acts of 1767, which taxed tea, paper, glass, and other commodities imported from England. This act of civil disobedience was the first public act of rebellion against the British crown and a major step leading to the American Revolution. Amazing all that is packed into the bowl that might serve up your helping of veggies for your dinner.

Several silver manufacturers have made their version of this bowl. From sterling to silver-plate there are affordable and heirloom versions for all budgets. Type in the key word on eBay or Etsy and an antique, vintage or discounted one may appear. From a young age I watched my grandmother use her bowls as classic centerpieces for all types of floral arrangements. Something I now do.

I prefer the bowls with the acrylic liner. Makes for easier cleanup for sure. Just don't make the same mistake I did once and put it in the dishwasher. That particular bowl is now designated for flowers only haha! In the photos are three of my own. My own and favorite versions of the bowl are by Gorham, Oneida, Reed & Barton, Wm.Rodgers and my first bowl I received as a wedding gift off my registry from Tiffany's. Formal to casual dining, even chips and salsa, I have found it to be the most versatile piece of silver I own.

Floral Fun

My laptop AND external hard drives are both fried. So sadly I won't have the photos from my camera I want to share up for a few weeks. In the meantime I wanted to share a few I snapped on my cell. My friend Linda of Tattered Bits helped me see my decor vision for my daughters parties through her amazing flower creations. The first party was right in the middle of finals week so I felt a bit stressed out to design it all myself.

Aren't these flowers so fun and the colors so beautiful!? Perfection!

Little Miss "8" was thrilled with her parties and actually cared about the decor. A first :) Special Thanks to Linda! Your talents are endless!! Better and more photos coming soon!

It appears my laptop needs some love. It is where I DUMP all my photos and now it doesn't want to share. Since my summer vacation starts today I have plenty of time to visit the Mac store and make them earn their minimum wages. Poor fellow who deals with me. So without a pretty photo to share I will say a Happy Belated Mothers Day and will return to share photos of my daughters festivities from this weekend soon.

Keeping VERY Calm!

My fingers went numb a few times in the past week trying hard to finish 14 costume renderings all due today. The downfall of my last assignment is that after turning in my rough drafts and getting them approved for the final stage of painting, I was told they were on too small of paper. So my drawings have been fully drawn 3 times now and I am over it! While the practice has been very good for me and I am loving drawing and painting all over again, I really do need a break.

Since there is a British buzz going on due to the recent nuptials, I felt it was fitting to post this (above) as my newest iPhone screen saver...haha! Yes, I posted this Keep Calm image on my iPhone this week. It was to remind me to take a deep breath even when you have to draw the same image over and over.

For now I will just say how relieved I will be when today is over. I have so much to look forward to this summer and lots of plans to travel both domestic and overseas. So I now happily announce...SCHOOL IS OUT!! For me at least! I love Summer! What are your summer plans?

Sweet Celebrations

April is my busiest month each year as the whole month is one huge celebration. It would seem everyone in our family has a birthday and some are doubled up on the same day, such as my Father and his Mothers, Mine and my brothers. Lucky us!

My AMAZING Grandmother just turned 90!! She blows me away with her zest for life. She still lives very independently on her own without care. Plays tennis, water aerobics, and walks daily. I get exhausted just mentioning her activities! I had the pleasure of arranging 90 stunning yellow roses my cousin sent for the dinner party we held for her. They are stunning don't you think!?!

Next up was my daughters 8th Birthday. 8 is a lucky number in our family and religion. She had a family party, friends swimming party and her baptism and celebration party is coming up in the next week. Lucky girl! When I was shopping for treats I came by some very interesting choices. I'm sure the parents of those children invited would appreciate the plaque removing qualities of this floss. Sad to say it was NOT included in the gift bags!

I decided on a healthier choice of treat for the gift bags. I made "Peep"-cicles. I incorporated the colors of her girlie pool party. She loves these treats and they were fun to make. It made it easy too that Easter is this time of year so there were a lot of options for gifts and treats for the gift/favor bags and decor. I like Easy!

A party in our family would not be complete without something sweet from Mrs. Backers Pastry House. Our family has been a longtime client of theirs ever since they made my parents wedding cake! They made one of mine too for my USA reception. It was just as yummy as their cupcakes. I love their flowers and how they are not perfect like sugar paste ones, yet they have a Shabby Chic look. They are so delicious..Yum! We ordered several dozen for the occasion and a cake for next week. Can't wait!

My two parties to ring in my 36th, were more private occasions with a few close friends and family. My husband surprised me with flowers SEVERAL times in the weeks leading up to my special day and after. He is so wonderful and I am truly a lucky gal! These cream with pink centers were my favorites.

One of my favorite gifts (I picked out) are these beautiful antique white and pink with gold hand painted accents. Perfect to use for several occasions. I SWOON!

Wishing everyone with April Birthdays and other celebrations a happy month as well. My biggest gift to myself is that school is out next week and I have a relaxing summer and traveling to look forward to. Phew!

Green with Envy

For my final in my Costume Design class we are designing The Seven Deadly Sins. It has been a lot of fun to think up the seven costumes and just how I personally envision them. As part of the assignment we have to pull inspiration from fabric and color swatches and present them. While digging in my warehouse to seek some green for my "Envy" design, I was reminded of some beautiful furniture pieces I had stowed away. Wanting a change and craving Spring I decided to haul this baby home. How fitting it is green!

I am more of a Damask lover than prints and florals, but this is one of my most favorite sofas and I really love the beautiful winding pattern of vines and roses. This is the original 1920's silk too (which I cleaned lovingly and surprisingly it holds up better than today's weaves!). I swoon!!

I didn't notice until the moment I shot these photos that the cocoa background of the fabric matches several of the walls in my home I painted last year. Amazing how even back in the 1920's the colors this sofa has have come full circle into today's trends!

I LOVE Green also and the patina on the wood is both a stunning color and goes with everything. I have no idea just where I will put this. Perhaps in the sitting room in my bedroom suite? Perhaps in a hall? At this point I am just excited to add a little of the season into my home in a bold way. What are you doing to freshen up your rooms?

Spring Shades

Spring colors are everywhere I turn and I am loving it! What a delightful surprise when you come by them on purpose or by chance when you open a carton of eggs!

I am in love with the tones in this 1920's desk and have been adding and seeking them to incorporate in my own shelter at present. Found this beauty at one of the designer showrooms I have shopped for years. I Swoon!

Something soothing about tone on tone with a hint of color or metal patina can really make a room, don't you think?!

And is it really a sin to have too many linen Bella Notte and Pine Cone Hill pillows? I think not!

I do have a deep love of antiques and sometimes the darker woods. I find the rich burls and patterns of their grain always keeps me from painting everything white, however tempting it may be.

I seek comfort every Spring in my home. The busy of my life all year till this point requires it. What do you do to bring comfort into your home?

"Out, damn'd spot! out, I say!..." - Lady Macbeth

For those of you not so familiar with my blog I have had the opportunity to design a lead in a play for a Costume Design course I have been taking at University. Lady Macbeth to be exact. What an honor and so much fun. The process has been both enjoyable and a learning curve that as a designer I fully appreciate.

From my renderings and some pulled costumes I embellished, sewed by adding and taking away, fully built and collaborated with the Pioneer Theater Costume Shop.

Those talented craftsman/women there are AMAZING! I learned so much and have really enjoyed it all. I also have landed myself a backup spot to assist with any future jobs that may need extra help. I hope something comes up where I can work with them again on another production. They have the most functional, organized and productive art space I have ever seen. I am in AWE!

I was also thrilled that the actress playing Lady "M" was my former ballet student Elizabeth. She was marvelous and one of the most gracious "clients" I have ever had. In this type of production the actors really have no say as to what the designers put into play, but I loved how we worked together on a few items and really married both her needs playing her part and my creative ideas to assist her to transform into her role. She is brilliant and featured in several local productions. What fun memories for me to have been a part of her process and education in her young career. I know we will see more of her ongoing!

I was able to pick from the costume shops different areas they kept stocked FULL of notions such as fabrics in any pattern, texture, and color you could imagine.

Beads, buttons, trim, lace, hats, shoes, wigs, jewelry (TONS of vintage....HEAVEN!) and any costume you could even dream of from former productions to borrow from and add to my design. I was in Martha Stewart heaven!! And I dare the queen of crafts to find a better managed and organized crafting space. It was all so overwhelming in the most delightful way.

Of course having more costume changes than any other character I had a lot on my plate. I designed 5 full costumes from the wig, crowns, clothing and jewelry.

I sketched, painted and finalized 4 that were used on stage.

The show is now open to the public and there is much excitement in the air. My class has all gotten close. These new friendships mean a lot to me and I am so honored to work alongside them as well as a very talented teacher (an active Costume Designer herself).

The set is all carved Styrofoam of all things. While I didn't design it (another student was given that opportunity from a class I look forward to taking in a year) I did help build, weld, paint, cut and dress it. It was a really fun project.

I am equally as honored to be a part of that. I am LOVING the Theater world.

My background in design stems mainly from Interiors but this new path for me is a fantastic fit. I can't wait for what's next!!

Spring Bouquets

I have traveled from dismal in one city to dismal in another and when that happens I always turn to fresh flowers to brighten my day. Even in my hotel room! It's my one luxury taught to me by my late Grandmother. She always had fresh flowers in her home, and so do I.

I made an arrangement for my other Grandmother who is almost 90 years old to enjoy. And then one for myself.

Split one dozen roses and a few floral filler packs from a local grocery. Sometimes it's a hit (sometimes it's a miss in their selections haha!).

I usually go to the wholesaler for flowers but didn't feel like waking up that early. I am not home at present but hear it is to snow again. I think I can bear another storm because fresh flowers await me. What could be better?!!

Tutu Tote

Frilly, feminine, and fun, my new bag is covered in layers of soft tulle with subtle rosettes along the front and buttery leather. I SWOON! How fitting to carry my own dancing shoes and set me in the mood.

In my world it will never go out of style. Timeless! The pink is a more grown up taupe shade and so beautiful. I was thrilled to find it at one of my favorite local boutiques and equally as thrilled to find it in black online.

THIS Ballerina is now satisfied.....until the next handbag tee hee!!

A Tisket, A Tasket....

....a Purply and Pink (and Green with vintage music paper) Basket ha! Spring is in the air...well kind of. Still overcast so I am headed to sunnier skies. It is officially Spring Break and it is most welcome! I have so much to do on my break and pulling out the rest of my Spring decor will be one task I will enjoy. I made/embellished this bask last year and it was the first thing in the storage box I pulled out. I just love it. It has a thrifty story behind it too.

Last year for an event I purchased several baskets EXACTLY like this one from a large interior design store here that deals both to the trade and public. I was antiquing for a specific project and found this at "the Boutique", as my dear friend Kelly calls it (The DI...tee hee!). It cost me $.75 and I was giggling the whole time as wholesale it cost $14 and retail it was...well I have no idea, but possibly double. What a deal! I decided to make a cute little Easter basket for my studio kitchen to highlight my Portmeirion and Bordallo Pinheiro Cabbage plates I just put out in some racks for Spring.

I added some vintage sheet music by cutting it into strips through my shredder, mixing them with Easter grass in both pink and purple from JoAnns for $1.49. Then crinkling them for some added texture. Embellished the outside with some little berry garland, ribbon in my favorite purple, pink and iridescent colors and a vintage shoe clip that belonged to my late Grandmother. Voila! I love the look and will be adding that grassy mixture to all my Easter spaces and baskets in varying colors of grass.

Now just to fill it with some smaller versions of my German glass glittered eggs. I love the vintage look and how fun and easy this basket was to make. I can't wait to start seeing everyones baskets popping up in blogland!

FOR JAPAN WITH LOVE

The devastation in Japan has really made me think how all the problems and ongoings in my life are so small compared. It also makes me think about how grateful I am for my family and my amazing circle of friends! The support I have in my own life should be shared. I truly wish the very best for these people. My church has sent thousands of relief products such as food, medical, you name it to help. I am so blessed to be a part of such a wonderful organization. I wanted to be sure to do my part so I have volunteered my time to help in our cannery to keep the supplies in stock for whomever needs it. Could be myself one day? I cannot imagine how these people feel, but their examples to me of being humble and not looting or complaining is amazing. I hope if I am ever in a situation like that I will be able to react in the same gracious manner. I may post here about beautiful things, high end styles or affordable beauty but in reality having only my family and friends without all the material items is more important to me.

I am happy to join with this amazing effort also to help out. My prayers are with them and I hope we all can help out in anyway we can.

Another amazing example to me of pressing forward through tough situations! Thanks to my girlfriend Emily for posting it first on her blog. It is inspiring!

HAVE A SEAT

I have been asked recently about the seating I have to my mirrored desk in my studio. I remodeled my studio last summer and found I could not part with this stool.
Just like a reliable old friend this stool and I have been through lots. It was cheap, but worked. It was time for a change however and I desired to make some sort of soft and romantic seating to fit my new space.

The fun part was carving foam into a comfy cushion and going staple crazy when attaching the moire to the panel. Then for the really fun part...

It started with a vintage French ashtray from Paris that I re purposed to hold my pins.

Yards and yards of dreamy tulle in an ethereal Taupe tone. Silky yet simple dress lining in soft Cream.

Sewn together. I could hardly see past all the fluff so this was a bit of a challenge.

It's all in the details! And I always add a touch of bling. Vintage of course!

Let me introduce you to my romantic studio stool. It fits perfectly in my new dreamy space. YES I do sit and work here. This is where I make jewelry. Here's a better view....

Spring Strawberries

A basket full of strawberries always brings a smile to me. A perfect treat, delicious with whipped cream and brown sugar. I have started pulling out my own Spring decor, however before I fill the baskets with eggs for Easter I have added strawberries instead.

Each is unique and hand sewn. This pattern is after my sweet Grandmother's sewing basket that had the little beauties on top. I wanted to recreate them and presented her with the first one I ever made. She will be 90 next month. What else would you give to someone who has seen everything and received every gift thought up?!

I also made some for the trunk shows I will be participating in and they have been so fun to share. If you want one of your own I have them listed in my shop as per your requests.

It has been so fun to bond with my Grandmother over these and listen to her talk about her own creative triumphs and ideas. Now if I could only keep up with her at tennis! She is super active and such an example to me of how getting older can be fun and graceful. I am so lucky!

Glitter Eggs

In my world Easter looks like this.

Layers and layers (7 to be exact) of 3 kinds of amazing glitter. German glass being the main ingredient. I Yum!

I used coarse, medium and very fine. I also dusted the top with Martha Stewart's ANTIQUE which is my favorite in her line. Gave the eggs an extra boost. If you love to work with this medium I highly recommend mixing different glitters for a really unique effect.

I am delighted to announce that the Trunk Show last night was a success!

My Strawberries sold out within 10 min of my walking in the door to set up. It was a hoot. The show had not even started yet and I was swarmed....but in a good way!! I enjoyed speaking to so many of you and look forward to seeing you again. Thank you for coming out. I am delighted to say that I will be leaving my creations at Madeleine L'Amour until Thursday. We also will extend special prices until then so if you didn't get a chance to come see me you have until then do so at your leisure.

The Strawberries will be re-stocked on Tuesday. May create some more eggs if there is enough interest for my online shop.

...in German glass glitter, scraps of tulle and ribbon. There are snippets of vintage dress patterns everywhere I swear were vacuumed. I am making glittery eggs like this..

...and some of the supplies I am pulling from the jars below as well as others because there is Spring in the air in my Studio! I love it!

This is where I have been sewing ruffles and ruffles and ruffles and ruffles and wow...I could go on! I keep getting questions which machine I use and this is it. It is a Singer Futura sewing/embroidery machine and Ah-mAz-iNG!!! All digital where I can design in my computer then transfer to the machine where it will sew my ideas.

I have been sitting at my jewelry making station below WAY too long I feel I am a part of it. I lost a pearl, found the pearl and lost it again...whoops! Now am on the hunt for said pearl to complete a design. My hands have spray paint splotches and bits of acrylic on them you might mistake the pattern as Henna. So overall I'm saying I'm a mess and creating an even bigger one. But I have some beautiful Spring surprises that will be revealed next Friday.

Lady Macbeth

At present you will find me in the midst of TAKE ONE in my design process for Lady Macbeth. I have been most absent from my blog the past two weeks as I was asked to design the female lead on the play Macbeth to be performed in April. My first deadlines were yesterday so the Presidents day weekend was hardly a holiday to say the least. I cannot tell you how thrilling it is to see your designs come to life. The first time I experienced one of my thoughts go from paper to touching it was back in college (the first time around haha!) where I was asked to design the space I lived in and pick a room to revamp on a given budget. I still own one chair from that project and it's a sweet reminder of how far I have come and grown.

I was beyond thrilled that the lead role is played by one of my former ballet students who is SUCH an amazing actress. Knowing she, Elizabeth (Lady M as we now call her in our worst Scottish accents ha!), is my muse makes it easy as I know how she moves and she is so beautiful even a plastic bag would look fabulous on her. I had the opportunity to pull from the HUGE (we are talking warehouses -plural-) selection of pre-made costumes from other productions to revamp and if I couldn't find anything close to my designs it would be fully made. I had 3-5 looks that may or may not be used.

These are two of my rough-draft renderings. I never said I was a portrait artist...actually the opposite as landscape and florals are my cup of tea to paint. Most of my designs are computer based or sculpted. Love me some clay, metal, fabric and wire!! But looking at the clothing is more the point. I had barely an hour to draw and color these and just a basic design idea was needed for the Directors approval. Also I felt a blank face was sort of creepy so I tried to make Lady M in her snobbery as best I could ha! I was only one of three with formal painting and drawing experience picked to design from my class so there was less pressure, however I was wishing I was drawing jewelry or furniture which come easy to me. Wouldn't that have been a fun costume, tee hee!

The warehouse was full of the most amazing works of art! I pulled this dress but it was too Three Musketeers looking to tweak so sadly it went back on the hanger. The bead work on the bodice is amazing!

Of course my favorites were the frills and ruffles. I was in heaven and swooning the whole time.

This purple damask dress was my most favorite as the color is my favorite. It called me from row 4,032 to take a photo (or 10). I will be back to have a tea party and play dress ups later I told it.

I had huge requests to seek and take photos of costumes several of my girlfriends and Mom designed over the years that are now napping there. While that hunt was a total fail I did happen upon a Bob Mackie number, complete with feathers on the shoulder. I can't wait to tell Alexis from Dynasty I found her gown!

Yes it was THAT fun and now back to finishing up the collars I have created. One might just be out of wire, one of my most favorite mediums to sculpt with. I love being an artist!! My possibilities are endless!

The costume shop was thrilled I can weld and wanted something unique made. I am honored to try and hope it works out. I have been swamped with 18 hour days..yes seriously! Now you know why I haven't been able to tweet, Facebook and have been missing in action socially. But I am loving it and now am off to fly out of town and play catch up.

Valentines Box

My heart sang when my daughter was looking through some photos of past Valentines boxes I had created and said she wanted hers to look the same.

Glitter, ruffled crepe paper, ribbons...you name it, it's there! Now if only I can get over my nightmares of the box being shoved into her backpack after school haha!

Believe it or not I had visions of creating a fun googly-eyed monster or character to eat the valentines and make her little friends giggle. Whatever we create for Monday I am sure it will be fun so long as we do it together!

I wanted to be sure to share this fun image one of my former ballet students emailed me for PINK SATURDAY. She is on her high school drill team which recently took State championship. All the girls have had ballet training on the team and several are my former students. How fun they performed on pointe and in these fun costumes! So clever!!

Swoon Dreams

Sometimes things come along that are just meant to be. I already have an amazing bed that I love and have dressed to the nines. However I swooned when Tony who owns the most AMAZING Antique and Estate showroom told me he found me a new bedroom set. When I went to see it all I could do was gasp and seriously hand him over my purse and everything in it along with my veins to drain for payment. It is that spectacular!

These photos don't even do it justice. The oval panels are hand painted scenes and the armoire is huge! The set includes another side table and two vanities with benches not photographed. Made in the 1830's. The soft sage-gray is so beautiful and not overdone. Be it my bedroom, my daughters or a guest room I can only swoon. If I decide to sell it you will be the first to know. I know my readers well and know you will email me asking :) I believe bedrooms should have all the drama and be a place you love to retreat to. This set doesn't shy away from that.

PINK MERCURY GLASS

Isn't it beautiful! I SWOON! I have added several of these to the sale but you better hurry because I have sold 2 within 10 min of listing them! I bet it's the PINK tee hee! They are so very pretty and how perfect for Valentines day!

It is tempting to keep them all for my own stash but as I saw some of the most beautiful cut glass holders, also mercury and pink at Market this month, these can now be yours so I can add more to my inventory. I believe I have two purple left as well and will hunt those down. If you want them please email me and I will reserve them for you.

Between school, a funeral, production on a play, an Art Show I am in this week, travel, family and homework overload (I'm tired just saying that!) I am slowing adding more stuff as I have time. I have period antique furniture and a few reproductions, Mies Van der Rohe furniture and others to match that style from my California home. Lots of Italian pieces, several from the Tuscan area of Italy. Crystal and other decorative items. This is local only. Indian Wedding

One of my best friends just celebrated getting engaged. I am soooo excited! Did I mention the wedding will be held in India? Did I mention I AM GOING??? EEK! I am beyond thrilled to be invited as a special guest!

Everything will be over the top Amazing and I feel so lucky to experience her country in such style. I will be fit with my very own handmade Sari. Have you seen them? They are so very beautiful. The brides wear Red and Gold, sometimes White. The gowns are all hand beaded, sewn with gold thread and very heavy. The wedding party is very colorful and the guests equally so. We will mimic the spice markets to be sure.

The makeup and jewelry are amazing too. Always gold, some brides have real stones some costume both versions are equally stunning. Rubies and Emeralds are the most popular.

For the lucky bride diamonds are mixed in. As an artist, and one who has both designed and created jewelry I am in awe. I will be wearing my own wedding jewelry again for one of the events during the week and hope I have the chance to wear one of these beautiful creations as well.

We have wedding cakes in the US...but they have CAKES! You had me at edible gold! If these are the guest cakes I can just imagine the main cake and all it's glory.

The "Mundap" is the traditional canopy she will be married under. Most are hand carved and come in so many variations. It will be covered in flowers and silks. Pretty elaborate! I cannot wait to see hers. The one above is AmaZinG!!...and the one below is MY kind...

...Romantic of course.

Of course there is the Mehndi. The beautiful designs in henna take forever to dry and have many meanings behind them.

I will have this done as well and look forward to it. It is traditional that the bride will not have to perform any household duties until it wears off. Sign me up for a weekly painting please!

Of course how could I mention India and Bride in the same sentence without a photo of one of my most favorite Bollywood actresses, Aishwarya Rai. Stunning! I have been a Bollywood fan for almost 15 years now, and after living next door in California to our dear friend Dr. Hallel....who was always inviting us over for fun movies straight from his satellite aimed to get the India channel. So fun!

I hope to visit a few countries along the way, possibly Dubai, where my husband and I have been wanting to go see and seek some business opportunities. I rarely blog about my travels but I look forward to sharing this adventure! Stay tuned!!

Sweet Dreams Maryn

I was about to blog on my recent travels and big news when I got a call from my dear friend James. Anything I could have blogged about would be numbing to me when he told me that sweet little Maryn had passed away. A year ago I hosted a charity sale here on my blog through my charity: CONES FOR CANCER. It was a HUGE success and we raised a lot of money for a very sweet little girl named Maryn. She suffered with an inoperable brain tumor and was seeking alternative therapy and treatment at the Burzynski Clinic after battling the tumor for several years. She was amazing! A champ and one of the sweetest little girls I have ever met. I was connected with her as James called me to ask if I could donate any of my jewelry for a fundraiser and if a ballet school would consider granting her ballet lessons as this was her Make a Wish wish.

Opening up your heart to a beautiful child such as Maryn was easy. Through the eyes of this child, one who knew what her odds were as the communication about her condition was open-ended, she was such a positive example to all to press on. I am truly grateful to each of you who purchased the beautiful donated items for the sale as well as donated money to this wonderful family. Maryn truly enjoyed an extra year because of the treatments you helped her obtain. She really was a miracle to the clinic and medical progress happened with her case. I am positive the kind people will take that information and help further their research for those future cases and I know we are that much closer to finding the cure.

Cancer sadly has been a huge part of my own family and even took my mother over 30 years ago. She was one of the first recipients of a bone-marrow transplant and stem-cell replacement. Looking at several survivors and medical advancements made from the studies of these early pioneering patients, I pray we are truly that much closer and we can ALL benefit from those studies to finding the cure.

Be My Guest

A small powder room has been given new life in my home. Still a work in progress I cannot wait until it is fully complete. I have had the opportunity to experience some of the most beautiful bathrooms in the world in my travels. Sounds funny to say that but I have truly felt pampered in this most private of a space. I want to always bring that to my own guests.

I have found myself sometimes without a necessity and a few times in an embarrassing moment, so I always have a little box, or in this case a pretty ruffly bag full of those items. Aside from personal care I also include dental floss, makeup items, gum and cough drops. You never know so why not be pro-active. Your guest will thank you!

Storage is key. This bathroom has a pedestal sink. I brought in a beautiful marquetry table and have several beautiful boxes on top filled with extras (toilet paper, soap, extra guest towels etc.) for easy and quick replacement.

As I am all about the details in any space I design and decorate, I have sprinkled this space with a few extra-special items. I credit my late grandmother, the most elite woman I have ever known, with a few of the ideas. In her bathrooms she always had beautiful linen guest towels. Use once then toss to be washed. How could I deny my guests the same luxury?! I have done this for years now and it always makes a visitor feel special and well looked after.

Mixed with new, the most well used items have breathed new life into this space. I found this antique cup and toothbrush holder for one Euro! Shabby and chippy just the way I like it makes it more beautiful than the cup in my opinion. I wish I knew the amazing past stories it could tell.

I could never imagine my life without art. This space is very soft so roses were appropriate (of course!).

My favorite art in this space are three Italian pieces I am finally able to hang. Here is a little peek at the details. Aren't they amazing!!

They have been begging to be hung for a while now...shh, we won't say how ~~many years~~ long.

This wall pedestal has a special story. It was sold to me by a man who owned the most beautiful antique shop in New Orleans. Most of his shop was ruined by hurricane Katrina. Several items in his storage shed several miles North were spared. This being one. I purchased a pair from him and love them.

I love making spaces special. I can't wait for this project to be complete and I can take some full scale photos to share. What do you do to make your guests feel welcome? I would love to hear your ideas.

HAITI

As I have sat down to ponder the past two weeks, especially this one where school has started and I'm already overwhelmed, I am swiftly reminded of how very blessed I am. My worries are very minor compared to the people of Haiti. Today marks the anniversary of the devastating earthquake that truly turned their lives upside down. It is devastating that less than 5% of rubble from the earthquake has been cleared since last year! Over three million people were directly affected. One million still homeless, a majority children. The thought still brings me to tears.

The earthquake has made it near impossible for Haitians to make a living. Basic materials are not obtainable and are lacking secure and sanitary conditions to support a turnover to their economic growth. It is empowering when one can provide their family with a living. Something these people cannot do, even the basics. They do not want a handout, rather to feel a sense of self worth once again.

I was delighted to learn about Heart of Haiti and their partnership with Macy's to help the victims rebuild. Willa Shalit, daughter of noted film critic, Gene Shalit, brought Macy's together with the artisans. Her company Fair Winds Trading Company, a for-profit company uses business as a strategy for economic empowerment of people, especially women, in the Majority World. The Majority World is where two billion of the world’s three billion people live, in poverty. The Heart of Haiti project will bring trade and aid to the earthquake-devastated country through a program for selling traditional Haitian artisan home décor products.

Macy's has made it possible for you to Purchase handcrafted masterpieces which will directly benefit the Haitian artisans who made them. It allows them to support their families with dignity and purpose. I am am both impressed with Heart of Haiti and honored to help myself. I attending a dazzling party one of my best friends (of 33 years!!) hosted. We had a BLAST! Meet SHANE...he's our ~~third wheel~~ new best friend. He was the life of the party and so fun. He made sure everyone had a hat or crown. I was wearing his little girls headband top hat...can you believe a baby wears that thing. Too cute! He also was master of fireworks..oh dear tee hee! I think we woke up the whole neighborhood at both midnight and 4 am!

I feel exactly how she looks in this photo...without the smile that is :) Not sure how or if we'll make it to brunch today, but I am officially on vacation for yet another week so thankfully there are no rules!

Since I don't drink I was given a very special beverage and I must say...Dance moves WERE killer! Oh yes I busted a move wearing my sparkly shoes and tutu. How fitting my drink is for PINK SATURDAY.

Speaking of I wanted to share this special Gingerbread House my Mom made since it is full of pinks and other sugary sweet colors. My cell photos don't do it justice. It is all hand beaded and made out of colored felt, lace and ribbon.

She made it back in college for a sorority charity event and her mother bought it as she couldn't see someone else owning this work of art.

My mom puts it out every year. I love it. Better photos next year for sure ha!

I hope everyone has a wonderful New Years. It is 4 degrees here and I am looking forward to some sun before school resumes in a week! Burr!! (and sleep!!)

I was waiting to have family photos taken, sitting in a beautiful public place and almost burst into giggles overhearing another families conversation about a beautiful mirror. Each person had a different answer as to what country it was from. What the porcelain details resembled. The year it was made. Was it original or reproduction. I heard some of the silliest answers. Some too crazy to mention but worthy of on the floor laughter. I personally knew the answer so it made it all the more entertaining! I sat there quietly.

As ladylike as I could possibly compose myself. I never expected to be asked about it and when I was I think I shocked myself. I blurted out it was Meissen, and a little about it. I think we all were in shock and then the whole party, mine included started laughing. A LOT! Welcome to the wonderful world of being a Designer, Collector and Loving it! If you have a passion for something I encourage you to use it to give yourself both joy and opportunities. I am thrilled to have met my new friends this way and now each time I am in this special spot I will have fond memories of that moment. One of 2010's highlights for me! What are your highlights you're reflecting on?

Pot de Creme

One of our Christmas traditions comes the day after. In keeping with my French heritage I make Pot de Creme. For those of you who have not enjoyed this you are in for a treat as I have posted the recipe below. It melts in your mouth and is less than a 1/2 Cup serving per person!! Small serving, Yes, but it is so rich it hits the spot. I serve mine in traditional pots, photographed above, by Limoges, pre-Haviland taking over the manufacturing. Plate is my china in the pattern "Anna" by Vista Alegre (the silverware is vintage). There are all sorts of beautiful versions of pots and recipes out there if you wish to start this tradition of your own. I have even experimented with a ready made mix that was both sugar and fat free. It was just as delicious. I added fresh raspberries on top of ours this year. They were left over from brunch and amazing!

I hope you have had a nice and relaxing Christmas vacation. I will still be enjoying mine the rest of this week with big plans for New Years.

CHOCOLATE POT DE CREME
2 cups light cream
1/8 cup sugar
4 oz. semi sweet chocolate
6 yolks
1/4 tsp. vanilla
pinch of salt

Best if made in proper Pot de Creme containers with lids. If other types of ramekins are used they must be covered tightly with tin foil. The surface of the custard must never be exposed throughout the bake.

DIRECTIONS

Place 6 yolks in bowl
Place 1 1/2 cups light cream, pinch of salt and sugar in a heavy bottom sauce pan. Heat over medium heat until sugar is dissolved.
Chop chocolate into small pieces. In a second heavy bottom pan place chocolate and 1/2 cup cream over low heat. Warm just to melt chocolate until the mixture is smooth. Add vanilla. Note: Avoid excessive heat. Do not cook chocolate. If you prefer, you can melt chocolate in a ban marie instead.
Slowly add cream/sugar mixture to chocolate, lightly stir to maintain a even texture.
Whisk a small amount of the hot chocolate mixture into the yolks. Add the yolk mixture back into the chocolate and stir over low heat until slightly thicker. Stir constantly.
Strain chocolate mixture using a medium mesh strainer into a liquid measuring cup with a lip. Carefully pour into Pot de Creme containers (with lids) or foil covered ramekins. fill about 3/4 of the way full, making sure chocolate is not touching the surface of the lid or aluminum foil when covered.
Bake in a water bath at 300 degrees until the custard is still very "jiggly" on top. Plus/Minus 30 minutes. It's VERY important to remove the custard from the oven when the surface is still quite loose.
Cooking time varies with size of containers and individual ovens. Do not over cook. It will continue to cook after removed from oven as well as set as they cool.
Serve with a dollop of whipped cream on top or fresh berries

When baking you need to keep checking the consistency of the custard by removing the lids with tongs and tapping the side of the containers. The Pots de Creme is done when it has a loose jiggle. You want it to be just thick enough to sit on a the spoon when you are eating it. The longer you bake it the harder the final product will be. The aim is silky, smooth and melts on your tongue. Bon Appétit!!

It is so sweet and greets guests in a powder room in my home.

The children and my dancer friends seem to love it best.

Antique ornaments mixed with some new make it sugary sweet!

It has been so fun having this new addition to our tree farm I seem to have amassed ha!

The cupcakes are my favorite! Aren't they divine!?! Breaking tradition from red and green always makes for a fun spin on the holidays.

While decor and festivities gather us together I will say that I am most grateful for our Saviors birth and all the blessings and joy he brings into my life! I am grateful for a family who loves to serve the Lord and are amazing examples to me. Especially my most AMAZING husband!

May your Christmas be full of joy....that the true meaning of this day can fill our hearts with gratitude!

Visions of Sugar Plumbs

I have been enjoying being on vacation, decorating for the holidays, spending time with family and dear friends. I cannot believe Christmas is in just three short days. I am excited to spend time with my husbands family one night then mine the next. On Christmas day we always invite everyone and anyone over to our house for Fondue and Pot de Creme. My own traditions now going on 8 years.

Everywhere I look it is purple this and purple that. I am in heaven! I threw in a splash of pink this year in very small amounts. I have the most amazing husband who lets me decorate however I please and he always finds the kindest things to say. I love when people seek beauty and happiness in all things. Now to only make some of my packages on back-order and still in customs move along quickly so I can find joy ha!

My beautiful new chandelier is now hung, although not in the place I intended, but an even more perfect location. As promised here is a better photo of it. I SWOON!

We are playing Sub for Santa tonight and I am reminded of the many blessings our family shares. My heart is the most full when I am giving service. Even a phone call to a friend does such. I hope we all can find ways to give back this season as there are so many that truly suffer and are having hardships.

I hope you are enjoying winding down for this weekends festivities, however you may celebrate. Coconut (who is getting so big and is still the sweetest cat ever) has found a new spot to wind down herself right in front of the fire on the silk tuffet. Can you blame her?

Early Christmas Gift

My husband is Ah.mAz.inG!!! I will admit I did ask rather than him surprise me, but it is just as special! He bought me the most beautiful antique Italian Florentine chandelier. It was love at first sight. Just ask my friend Kelly as she hardly had to speak a word as I drooled over it in her shop. I was delighted to get it early rather than wait for Christmas morning.

I just had to share because I am SWOONING as I stay up into the wee hours surrounded by the heavy crystals and giving it a little TLC. I have no idea where I will put it, but honestly...who cares, it's amazing! More photos coming soon after it is fully cleaned. What are you swooning over today?

On Holiday!

It's been a LONG two weeks! I have been absent as I was preparing for my finals and now those have come and gone. What a relief to be done! I will now step into a new department which is the next chapter of my path to my next career. Set Design, Prosthetics in Stage Makeup, Costume and Wig Design, and Production Management are some of the topics of study. Doesn't it sound fun?!! I also hope I get to weld too. I hear I will be the minority who know how to do it and they love that. I am thrilled!! I love all sorts of creative outlets and feel they are essential to our health as well. I hope you are also enjoying some fun outlets as well!

I am off to enjoy a restful and much needed weekend to kick off my holiday break. A little R & R at one of my most favorite hotels is always more enjoyable with stunning views in every corner as seen above. Enjoy your weekend!

Swan Lake

I am fully in love and awe of the beautiful Katherine's Collection. Every creation from this talented company is A.May.Zing! I stumbled upon these beauties in New York and kicked myself for not purchasing them. While visiting a favorite local boutique, Three French Hens, I was beyond thrilled to find a pair waiting for me. They didn't need to talk me into them at all. Gift wrapped for myself thanks :)

The craftsmanship is exquisite, the white velvet luxe. I am all about the details and these are not lacking. I took off the satin ribbon as I didn't want to hang them from my Christmas tree, rather just set them out on the dining table (for now).

They may not be for you but I love different, unique and these. Perfect for my Nutcracker Party. Perhaps the Ballet will perform Swan Lake this year. Oh yippee!! Another reason to pull them out and SWOON!

Mercury Forest

In a few corners of my home it is looking like a mercury glass forest. Everything is so magical and glittery.

Of course there is plenty of Pink, Purple and Chartreuse Green to go around in my Sugarplum world. I especially love candles and twinkle lights. I think our home is most magical in the evening. I broke out the mint hot coca. My favorite! Fitting for how crisp the air is here.

Oh the tales this sofa could tell. I had both my wedding breakfast photos taken here and a few family ones taken over the years. I just had to snap it when we visited The Grand on Thanksgiving to share with you. One of my favorite spots to sit with beautiful views. I think Pink makes everyone look marvelous don't you?!

A "Grand" Thanksgiving

It was so very wonderful seeing all my family over this past weekend at our pre-Thanksgiving party. It went off without a hitch and was so fun and enjoyable! To make it easy today and especially cleanup, my amazing husband took our family to The Grand America this afternoon for our "feast". Everything was perfect from food down to the Sunset roses in the table centerpiece.

I ate everything except Turkey...actually I had a tiny bite of it, but enjoyed everything else way too much. Some of my favorite dishes were pumpkin chutney risotto, sage gravy over prime rib, eggs benedict over crab cakes with hollandaise (my favorite!), triple berry crepes with Nutela and leg of lamb with mint pesto. I had just a small taste of everything while my daughter went to town at the children's buffet above tee hee!

There was a silent auction for some amazing gingerbread houses. My favorite was PINK and very sweet. Someone nibbled one of the reindeer antlers. I think it was Rudolph. "Who will lead the sleigh?" my daughter asked? Good question!

The proceeds of the auction support Juvenile Diabetes. I loved the Russian themed one above, especially the Shredded Wheat thatching. Each creation was better than the next and very creative!

"The Grand" as we call it here, is a beautiful 5 Star hotel and always pulls out all the stops no matter the occasion. It is full of antiques, chandeliers, silk brocade, marble and gold that rivals the most amazing hotels around the world, especially in Europe.

I am proud to say my Fathers company did most all the woodworking in the building and it is everywhere including the ceilings. I swoon!

I love coming here and look forward to our next occasion which will be breakfast with Santa and the opening of their sweet shop La Bon Vie, that will carry Italian gelato and French pastries. Yum! (Photo borrowed from The Grand America on Facebook)

Twinkle Toes

Every year I host a Nutcracker Party. This year several of my students are performing in several performances and I am excited to see them at their best. It's a magical time of year. In keeping with my Vintage Ballerina themed tree, I pulled out my antique ballet shoes for display. They are so magical!

From the 1920's they are made in Philadelphia. One of the first places I trained and danced professionally so that makes them extra special to me. They are so petite! Size 4 !!

I wonder who wore them and the stories they could tell. What fun favorite thing are YOU pulling out for your holiday decor? I would love to hear.

A Thing for Green

Wanting to just ENJOY my December I have started a bit early with trimming my trees and rolling out the holiday red carpet in all the corners of my home and studio. I plan to enjoy those holiday parties and festivities without the pressure to decorate in one weekend (after Thanksgiving as most of us traditionally do) and enjoy a little sparkle for an extra month. With the weather as snowy as it gets sometimes I often wonder if we should extend how long we leave out the trees too by an extra month (or two tee hee!).

My Christmas is never traditional. I opt for deep Plum, Purples and Chartreuse on my main two trees and have been so happy that over the last seven years of combining those shades there seems to be a larger selection of ornaments for me to pick from and add to each year. Especially anything decorative in mercury glass. Swoon!

Here is a little peek of the first tree done. My favorite ornaments are the chandelier crystals which reflect the lights so beautifully. I added little glittered birds this year which are too sweet!

Well on to the next tree and corner that needs a little sparkle. A little vintage mercury glass garland in Pink always does the trick!

Crowing Glory

My beautiful Venetian tree topper I purchased in Italy broke!! I am so very sad as it cannot be repaired. I have had it for over 17 years now. So funny how we grow so attached to things sometimes. Oh the memories of my first tree in my first house!! When I was out and about with one of my best friends Monday we spotted this beautiful crown. It can be used for whatever suits my fancy, however I plan to use it as my new whimsical tree topper to my studio tree. I swoon!! Some things are meant to be and I can't wait to use it and share. I think it needs a little sparkle too and I have big plans for that. What do YOU put on top of your tree?

Haunted Corners

Sometimes if you look up you will find spooky greetings tucked in the most random places in our home. The utility closet that rarely gets seen counts, right? Tee hee! I had a lot of fun this year placing decor in very random spots, some almost hidden and unexpected. Mainly to get the little ones excited for the season.

Skeletons lurk everywhere around here. I will admit one just about scared my out of my skin when I had to get a drink in the middle of the night. Had a good laugh over that one.

The entry to my kitchen is where this topiary greets you. It stands nearly 4 feet tall on it's own as the pumpkins are HUGE! I cannot wait to carve faces tonight with the family before we go trick or treating. It is a family tradition along with making caramel apples. Yum!

The glittery hat on top I picked up at one of my favorite boutiques this year. So FUN! Maybe I can wear this to one of the parties I will attend this weekend?!

A corner of my kitchen I wanted to share. The skeleton is actually a salt shaker and the base the pepper. So clever! Wouldn't that be such a fun job to design shakers like this! Sign me up!

Many a concoction brews in my ~~kitchen~~ laboratory. Of course housed only in the most beautiful of bottles makes them a little more convincing to those lucky enough to use their contents.

Each potion brings everlasting ~~death~~ beauty and will knock off at least 10 years instantly! Amazing!! Just ask one of my best friends Charlotte who was glowing after just one treatment!! Photos of her tomorrow. You will ~DIE~ when you see the results.

I am officially on FALL BREAK. Which sadly for me means homework. I will be finishing 2 sculptures this weekend. One is a metal sculpture and the other for my kinetic sculpture class. I am working hard all weekend and into the first of next week. I hope I finish so I can enjoy a mini-vacation with my family. Much needed! Softening the Walls

I have some new faces on my walls. I have moved all that is romantic from the kitchen to make way for the rich colors that Fall brings. This includes moving the pretty rose china to my studio. In moving things around I decided to add them to some sconces on the walls behind some new antique busts I acquired. I swoon!!

The angle of the light from the windows makes most anything along this wall seem ethereal, especially these. So sweet! I love them and hope in my next section of school (Spring term) I can sculpt my own version as beautifully. I am in awe of sculpture, but obviously prefer it leaning towards the softer side of life :)

Complete Set

It is rare you find a complete set of vintage dishes and even more so when you find the serving pieces to go along. When I came by this set of serving pieces (and several more dishes) this week I was delighted as they matched some I purchased earlier this summer.

The dishes I purchased are from the Farm Chicks show. I have searched for extra dishes, serving pieces and the tea service. Nothing until now and amazing I found them locally! I restyled my art/design studio kitchen with them and love how they add to my romantic style either as decor or to use.

The gravy boat is the same shape as the oval vegetable and I just love the details on each end. The covered serving bowl has the same curved handles the sugar dish has. It was fate I stumbled upon these.

Here is a photo of the dishes I took a few months ago (and obviously both in the day and with better lighting tee hee). I swoon! The saying usually goes "If Walls could talk"....I always say "If dishes". I'm sure they have more delicious stories!

Softly Lit

My Grandmother gave me one of these beautiful porcelain night lights when I was very young. I believe it was hers once upon a time. Sadly it got lost over the years and to my delight I found one at an estate sale recently. I found the perfect spot for it atop a shabby candle holder in my daughters room. Isn't it so sweet! It casts the softest light and my daughter loves it. What I love are the fond memories of my late Grandmother it brings to me!

Nest Cloche

Found a really different cloche. It is made of wire, with little painted and rusted metal leaves. On top is the sweetest nest with an egg. I LOVE it! This, believe it or not, is the smallest size. It holds a dinner plate underneath.

This is one of my vintage sets from California I brought back with me to Utah. I wanted a photo before I break out the Fall decor and china to share with you. While I do love the Summer and all that is Shabby, I LOVE the Fall and it is my favorite time to decorate aside from Spring. For me it even trumps Christmas. Did I mention I have a slight obsession with dishes? Intervention might be needed by the next blog post where I share more china tee hee!

The beautiful antique pedestal is from Abode. Many thanks to the amazing gals there! It will be featured in a magazine shoot so here is just a sneak peek at it's fabulosity. It is VERY old, chippy, creamy colored. Hand painted details are to die for and it is just perfect. Just the way we like it...right girls!?!

Having a hard time here with school in full swing to focus on everything else that needs to get done. Especially the packing of my lovely china off to storage. I guess Miss Coconut will have to do the packing all by herself! That is IF she ever gets out of the box :)

To Bee or Not to Bee...

Isn't this Beehive Birdcage so fab! I just love it. I own it in three sizes but this one takes the cake. It is HUGE! It is over 4 feet tall. It is one of my inspirations for a sculpture project I will be required to do at school. Of course in keeping with the abstract requirements mine will have to appease my professor. I don't really know where to display this at present as I have been decorating for Fall and will not be incorporating it into my vignettes. I wanted to share it before I move it into storage.

I have used it for my trunk shows with earrings and jewelry hung from it. It was perfect and fitting being a beehive and representing my business name. So you can see the scale I added a six inch mercury glass pillar holder with a sweet bird nesting on top, as well as a salad bowl. They don't even touch the first wire support. So many possibilities. I love fun finds like this don't you?! What fun finds are you enjoying?

Handmade and DIVINE! Are you drooling yet?

With how exhausted I am from working hard to get everything organized and ready for school to start I must say it takes a lot to get me excited. I am over the moon however on these pillows. Aren't they amazing! I have a photo shoot (as if I needed more stress) coming up here at my home in September for a magazine. I am excited but as anyone who has been through it knows, IT'S WORK! A lot of planning and I could not have done it or brought about some of my vision without my sweet friend Linda! She is amazing! I first introduced you to her line Tattered Bits a few months back. I asked her if she would consider stepping out of the box and making some custom pillows for the upcoming event. While I DO love to sew, I will honestly say that it is nice to have someone else know exactly what you envision and bring it to life. I was and still am thrilled at her beautiful creations. I cannot wait to show you what I have planned and I have asked Linda to assist me at the shoot as she (obviously) has amazing taste and can help me edit and photo style. We will have so much fun, I can't wait!

Back to cleaning, organizing and purging. I know you're jealous (wink!) I hope you are having a great week! Thanks for your visits. I have to go mop up my own drool now :)

Mon Petit Lustre

I had such a fun time making my first (of many) chandelier. As I mentioned before wire is one of my most favorite mediums to create with.

I decided to be a little different and took vintage music and glued it on the back of my larger cut crystals. I didn't mean to get religious but in cutting out a song from a vintage hymn book I purchased at Just a Bed of Roses I was delighted to see my words sort of formed a saying.

Looking lovely through the reflection I arranged all 10 of the words to hang and say in this order: "Christ...crowned with....glory...we sing...his praises....who is....life....love...light...the only way".

I am very pleased with how it turned out and for me there is now a deep meaning close to my heart. I used beads in two of my favorite colors, Purple and Green along with clear. All my crystals had an iridescent sheen to them which bounces the light off in the most spectacular way.

The green are small jades which are so pretty and soft. I found this amazing burlap ribbon which I gathered and made onto the chain cover. I am not too sure just where to hang it, but somewhere in my bedroom as those are my colors in there.
